In June after my exams were finished (literally the day after my final exam I believe!) I took some time out to explore a city on my own! I've only ever visited England for work or small family breaks, so spending nearly 2 weeks traveling for the first time on my own was something I was very excited about. I wasn't completely on my own, however, I spent most of my days with the friends I had made in Bristol through our work together on Shi No Barado.
After I arrived myself and Sparkles* headed straight from the airport to GAME where we purchased Animal Crossing: New Leaf ヽ(｀▽´)/ I was so happy because I've been a big fan of the series since I first played it on the Game Cube in 2004. Sparkles* had never played it before, so he didn't know what he was getting into! I'm still avidly playing, and you can follow my adventures on my Animal Crossing: New Leaf blog on Tumblr. Here are some choice screenshots! http://bckymango.tumblr.com ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
I also had the opportunity to go and finally watch The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrman. I was very excited to see it, as I love the novel (and the 1974 film adaptation), and I've also been previously impressed with Luhrman's work. The film was incredibly visually beautiful, and it used some of the most fantastic structural generation I've seen so far. However in relation to the story, I think the changes made were unnecessary. That being said, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and I loved the use of modern artists throughout the movie.
I'm very sad to report that this trip was indeed the end of my beautiful Radley less-than-a-month-old handbag which I recieved for my 18th birthday ( ´_ゝ｀) If you have a cute handbag you want to exist for a long time, don't keep a pen like this in it. Luckily my mum took pity on my and just this week I was treated to a lime green Guess handbag, so I'm not so sad any more!
When I was hanging out in Sparkles*'s studio I found this sheepy hat, it totally made for the best instagrams! ヽ(｀▽´)/
Some of you may be surprised to hear that there isn't a Krispy Kreme on the Isle of Man, so this was actually my first ever time trying it out. My favourite of the doughnuts displayed was the chocolate foot version, but I've never found it again since June ( ･ั﹏･ั) So if I can't find that then I usually get the Cookie + Cream Ring Doughnut! it was really delicious, and it turns out that some only have as many calories as any other regular sweet so every now and again when I can I think I'll have one as a snack (/･ω･)/
This big ship is called the S.S. Great Britain. It was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in Bristol, and it was the longest running passenger ship in the world, from 1845-1854. To prevent decay to the metal she is kept in a dry dock, with some of the greatest dehumidifiers in the world maintaining humidity at 22%. If she was exposed to regular air, the humidity would cause her to completely corrode away within 22 years!
I also ate at Gourmet Burger Kitchen for the first time! I have to say it is now one of my favourite places to eat. I chose a regular burger with cheese and bacon, and a side of skinny fries and corn-on-the-cob! Every bit of it was delicious, especially the skinny fries! They also do a really flavoursome salt you can pour over them to make it extra tasty! I wish we had one on the Isle of Man but sadly I'll have to keep my GBK-ing to England only for now (・_・;)
We visited the Aquarium too! There were lots of interesting exotic animals, it was a really great experience! I really liked the tiny jellyfish ♡ I'm quite scared of jellyfish but these were the size of my palm, so it was hard to be scared of that!
At the end of my trip we went to a lovely restaurant called the Turtle Bay. It had recently opened, so it was quite hard to get a reservation there. They made delicious Jamaican style food, and there was a wonderful atmosphere throughout! The food was very spicy which isn't usually what I like, but it was still tasty. I had jerk-style ribs. I don't often eat ribs, but I think I will more often now, they're definitely one of my favourite things!
