Since AW15 has just walked the runway, that means it’s officially time to start wearing your SS15 gear! I had a scout on ASOS to pick out some outfits that reflect this season’s trends.
Fashion is of course extremely cyclical, and so while the late noughties/early tens have favoured the skinniest of jeans, it’s time to revisit the older silhouettes, and this time around it’s boot cut, bell bottom, seventies all around jeans.
On the feet we are wearing these perforated peep-toe heels. These are so versatile, and add a little bit of that sporty look we have been seeing this season, too. I would always recommend to wear a heel with bell-bottom jeans, as they can be quite hard to balance, and tend to look better a little oversized and too long, covering half of the heel.
A final touch, these gilded tattoos. A little more upmarket than the temporary tattoos you had as a child, these foil charms can really accent an outfit for a special occasion. I was thinking about putting some small arrows symmetrically along the collar bones, to add a little bit of metallic balance, without the commitment of a necklace.
I was very surprised to see how prevalent the combination of the colours red, white, and black, were this season. I guess that means I can carry on wearing what I’ve styled this winter well into the spring and summer too! The colours really remind me of poppies.
I went for this full, knee length skirt. Again, it’s all about the resurgence in more traditional cuts and lengths. Micro-sized has been the echo of the last 10 years, and so it’s definitely time to mix things up a little bit with longer lengths and silhouettes.
I paired it with this simple black halter neck crop. Again, the cropped length breaks up the length of the skirt.. but who am I kidding, I just really love a good crop for summer! The black crop balances the black bar of the skirt, and the high neckline compliments the length of the skirt, so the outfit is evenly weighted.
I chose these chunky black heels because the thick horizontal bars compliment the black bar on the skirt. I’d definitely say wear some red polish on your toes for this look to really top it off!
Accessories-wise, I picked out the above. These garnet earrings are more traditional, and definitely would suit a more classic look. I’m not sure if the red of these is too deep for the skirt, so perhaps choose some oxblood accessories to go with these, such a deep lipstick.
This bracelet is quite busy, but it definitely matches the colour theme of the season. Perhaps think about wearing pearl earrings with this, or a white ribbon in your hair.
Finally, this Love Moschino bag is a beautiful cross-body number. The gold hardware is very warm and summery, and would stand out along with the strap in contrast to the black top.
Sporty vibes are ever-present in SS15, which is filled with varsity stripes and team numbers. I chose this NIKE sport bra as the focal point: name brands are as popular as ever, and sport names are often much more affordable than other designer goods.
Pairing the top with these non-sport but very short shorts adds a little more fashion into the mix, rather than workout-only vibes. They are high waisted, which should feel more comfortable, as the top is very short on the bottom.
I paired them both with these NIKE high top sneakers. This makes for a comfortable and wearable look, while keeping in with the trends.
For hair, we have two options. This pink scrunchie can be worn on the wrist, or in the hair as a ponytail. A messy half-up half-down look would look fantastic with this style. Otherwise, there is this Alice band, which carries a very ‘Clueless’ vibe along with it. Both options are fun, preppy, and youthful.
I’ve paired them with these simple white heels. I felt that chunky heels would make for a better day look, however for evening, I’d switch to something more elegant and satin.
This New Look clutch looks as if it was made for this outfit. Made from faux snakeskin, the pearlescent properties compliment the satin texture exactly.
The whole outfit is topped off with these striking cat-eye glasses. The opaque lenses give a celebrity feel, while the strong shape of the lenses really balance with the chunky strong shoes, and bring the whole outfit to a close.
Have you been following the runway for AW15? My number one rule as always, is to wear what you like! I enjoy looking at the current trends, but the decision of what to wear is always only influenced by the trends, never dictated.
Let me know what you think! Which is your favourite look? Would you wear any of these?
Thank you for now! Until next time,
