Japan 2013: Asia Fashion Collection pt 1

On October 19th I attended Asia Fashion Collection, a runway show featuring many designers from across Asia.

"Asia Fashion Collection is an incubation project, produced by Vantan and PARCO, looking to contribute to the development of the fashion industry across Asia. Young promising designers from South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong along with 13 talents from Vantan Design Institute compete at Tokyo Stage, winners will make the runway debut in NY."

It was held in the main venue for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: The Hikarie Hall in Shibuya Hikarie.

This runway show was by far my favourite to attend. The usual protocol for a fashion show is: queue up for 40+ minutes while wearing your heels because you want to look fab. Eventually be shown into the fashion hall, but your position is standing because all the rich and famous are filling the seats. Wait a long time, and then the show will begin. Show lasts 10 minutes. Leave.

So you can see it's a lot of waiting and not a lot of fashion. Not that I am ungrateful! But in comparison, for Asia Fashion Collection, we were shown into the room fairly quickly, we had second-row seats, and the show lasted for almost an hour, and we saw such a variety of designers!

The show was opened by these officials. They spoke about the show, but it was all in Japanese so I didn't really gather any information from this section.

FUMIAKI MURANO

FUMIAKI MURANO is the first designer to showcase their collection. Featuring mainly ready-to-wear clothing, these gentle silky designs popped with contrasting colours, a heavy theme of blue, and exciting blends of texture.

Crocheted fabrics were prevalent through many of the collections in MBFW SS2014

Again, soft, silky fabrics were often seen, and there was emphasis on the colour yellow.

MILLIM

I really loved the aesthetic of millim's collection. This cropped short with widening sleeves is a gorgeous twist on existing cropped top designs.

The almost regal overcoats detailed with blue and gold were a particular favourite. They remind me a little of Michael Jackson.

The gently metallic pieces were found to be paired with a deep bottle green- the cropped top coordinate with green heels, and the above dress with green calf socks.

I couldn't locate any millim web presence.
